About VERA
Why this exists.
VERA exists because the systems are failing when it comes to gender-based violence, and that failure costs every person in Europe: physically, emotionally, and financially.
What we do
VERA brings together countries, institutions, and everyone affected by gender-based violence to change how Europe responds. We open what works to all of them, towards creating a system that works. We do this through five pillars:

Design better process
We help design a victim-centred response, drawing on what works in each country, from the first point of contact onwards.

Prove it
We test and independently evaluate reforms in real settings, so recommendations rest on evidence, not assertion.

Connect people across borders
We bring together everyone working on this across Europe: police, prosecutors, researchers and support services, plus the survivors and advocates driving change. This means no one works in isolation and learning crosses borders.

Put the knowledge in everyone's hands
We make the things that are usually scattered or hidden, including the data, the law, and the sources, clear, public and easy to understand. Anyone can see what's happening, understand what counts as a crime, and know where to turn.
Who we are
VERA belongs to every woman failed by the system, and to everyone who refuses to accept it.
We are independent and non-profit, working with partners across Europe.
